9 REASONS AS TO WHY COMPUTERS CRASH

If you are a Microsoft Windows User, you must at least be familiar with this “You have just been struck by the Blue Screen of Death” or even any other massage or action that is inappropriate on your computer.
Here I will be telling you about how, why such massages appear on your screen and most important, how you can fix or prevent it from
happening.

            1. Hardware conflict

Hardware conflict is the number one cause of computer crashing. This is becouse each hardware component in a computer has an IRQ (Interrupt request channel) through which it communicates to the others components in the computer. IRQ s are unique for each device though it sometimes happens that some devices may use the same IRQ especially if the devices are not installed properly or if the devices are many on one computer hence causing a crash.
This problem can be fixed by removing and reinstalling the problem device, Moving the device to a different slot on the motherboard and Finding more recent device drivers on the internet (I recommend: www.driverguide.com) if you are looking for updated device drivers.

        2.  Software

This is also a common cause of computer crashes. Faulty or badly installed software can very much crash your computer. The simplest way of solving problems such as these is by uninstalling and then reinstalling the faulty soft ware.
However, some times for some reason like the Windows registry, the problem might insist. The more advanced and effective but easy way is by restoring your computer to an earlier time. To restore your computer to an earlier time just restart-up your computer and press F4 when you see the “Starting Windows” When you are into safe mode, just search “Restore” then select “restore your computer to an earlier time”. From here, you should be able to continue with the prompts until the computer restarts.
That should be it. With Safe Mode, your computer will load a minimum of drivers to allow you  find and fix problems.

         3. BIOS settings

Honestly, I am not that much of a fun when it comes to BIOS even though I may know a few basics. The most common error concerns the CAS latency which involves ram.  Older EDO (extended data out) Ram has a CAS latency of 3 but Newer SD Ram has a CAS latency of 2. This means setting the wrong CAS latency figure may cause the Ram to freeze your display.
To edit BIOS settings, you just need to restart your computer and press F2 or delete button during the reboot.

        4.  Overheating

This is also one of the most common reasons Computers crash. Especially when it takes place in the Central processing unit (CPU).Even though a CPU is always equipped with a fan to keep cool, the fans can fail for whatever reasons it may have. Funs usually fail when they are old.

       5. Bad Ram

The most cause of “The blue screen of death” is Random access memory (RAM) The blue screen of death may read: Fatal Exception Error. A fatal error is the same as a hardware problem.
This problem might be caused by a mismatch in the RAM chips. Mixing the 70ns Ram with 60ns Ram may cause this problem. This will force the computer to run the Ram at a very slow speed hence crashing your computer. How to fix this problem involves entering and editing BIOS settings to increase the wait state of the Ram to make it more stable. (Bad ram can crash computer under other ways)

        5. Fatal OE exceptions and VXD errors

Usually caused by video card problems, they can be easily resolved by reducing the resolution of the video display and updating your card drivers. Common causes of problems related to graphics cards are old and faulty drivers

        6. Hard disk drives

Hard disks Store data/information. However, Hard disks will slow down and crash if they are too full. All the content on the hard disks is always fragmented as time goes on which might lead to freezing of the screen. It is always good to defragment the hard disk, Empty the Recycle Bin to free up space and Scan for errors or bad sectors at least once every mouth of a year.

        7. Printers

A printer is a peripheral device that can receive print commands from computers. In the process of receiving a documents to print, a printer creates a big file called a postscript file which is stored in its memory usually called buffer.
If the printer has less memory, the postscript file can crash the printer if it overloads the memory and may also slow down your computer’s performance.
The best way to resolve a crashed printer is to clear the buffer by unplugging it for a few seconds

        8. Viruses

Viruses have merged to be the one of the most cause of computer disorders. For this, they can crash your computer especially after it writes codes when your computer starts up.
To resolve this problem, get yourself an antivirus and don’t forget to always update it at least once each month.

       9. Power supply
Lastly, I will talk about the Power/ electricity supply. When I say “Power supply problems” I don’t only mean the problem with that device that controls the flow of electricity to different parts of the computer, It’s also to talk about where the power is coming from. A power spike or surge might crash your computer just like any other reason I have given before this. Especially in an area with power cuts every now and then, To resolve this problem, you may need Uninterrupted power Supply (UPS) With the UPS, You’ll be able to have a repayable and stable poser supply on your computer. The UPS can also preserver several minutes after power is cut off to allow you save your important tasks and have a safe turn off.

With this, I am hoping I answered the question to the title of this article. For any additional information, please share in the comment section.

Alittle About Me

I am an open minded person with a great interest in computer networks, programming and cyber security. My love for computers started way back since elementary school where I din't have access to the internet nor did I have a computer at my disposal. In the long run at the right time, the love I had for so long was taken to the next level when I was granted internet access and mostly, A computer at my disposal. This allowed me to develop and enhance my skills more effectively. Currently on a cyber... Continue Reading
